If you had a safe, you’d want to be the only person with the password for that safe.
Being able to choose your own encryption key is an essential part of securing your data. Many products encrypt data, but the security key will often be held by the provider themselves. This is a potential vulnerability as it takes control out of your hands and means the provider could – in theory – access your data.
To ensure this is not the case with our service, we have no involvement in choosing our customers’ encryption keys, and encourage them to take measures to protect their keys in the event of an emergency.
